POSTNATAL MASSAGE

Postnatal massage can be given as soon after the birth as the mother requires. You can have this massage either lying on your side or front and back, depending on how soon it is after the birth, and what position is most comfortable. I will use pillows and cushions to support your breasts, tummy and pelvis if needed to make you as comfortable as we can.

Postnatal massage can be given as soon after the birth as the mother requires. I will use pillows and cushions to support your breasts, tummy and pelvis if needed to make you as comfortable as we can.

If you wish, your baby can be with you, as I do have a chair which rocks and vibrates which may keep baby happy. Some Mothers also like to have their baby lying next to them which is possible as my bed is extra wide to cater for this.

If you may want some quiet time to yourself, that is also fine and we can hopefully work around this, finding suitable time for both of us!

This quiet time can be very important for a new Mother especially after the labour and initial Postnatal period.

What happens during a Postnatal Massage?

The massage uses a variety of techniques dependant on what the mother requires and the reason for her requesting a massage. As previously stated, It is performed either side-lying or as normal lying on back and front. This is dependant on how the Mother is feeling, if breastfeeding or C-section scar is feeling sore or whether there are any lower back issues where lying prone would be more uncomfortable. I use organic wax which is unperfumed and perfectly safe to breastfeed with or be close to baby with for those Mothers who would like no scent. However,

I can also make up a blend of dōTERRA oils to be used during the massage to make it bespoke to your needs and requirements. They are safe to use whilst breastfeeding your baby. These oils work on an emotional level as well as physical, and can be used by smelling them, diffusing them as well as topically on the skin.

If you would like a specific rollerball made up for you to take home with after your massage, I can blend some into a 10 ml rollerball, which can be used on your wrists, soles of feet, neck, down your spine as well as in your hands and breathed in! Rollerballs start at £20 for a 10ml bottle. Cost is dependant on which oils are used in your blend.

The treatment can either be a full body massage or problem area-specific, but will be determined after consulting the Mother to ensure her requirements are met. You may want your time out to relax or you may be concerned about niggles, so this time is yours to chose how you want it spent.

Up to six weeks after birth (approximately)

I can help to relieve aches and pains that are pregnancy, labour or posture-related.
I can also help with

  • feeding positions

  • discuss good nutrition which can help you heal and recover
  • prescribe some exercises personally for you and your needs.

TESTIMONIALS:

“I would highly recommend using Tanya during pregnancy. After discovering her during my first pregnancy, I didn’t hesitate to get in touch with her when I became pregnant with my second child. I’ve been to many spas/salons but Tanya is by far the best massage I’ve ever had. That coupled with her expertise means that she can work on specific areas and her massages always left me feeling relaxed and fab! Also, her ability to listen and connect with you as a person is a unique skill and gave me complete confidence in her work. I would recommend her to anyone!”
Jill, Northampton

“Post pregnancy and after having a c-section I was more misaligned than I realised until I had a massage off Tanya. She was great as assessed my stance and overall body before working on areas which I wouldn’t have thought were linked to my back pain at all but they were. She released tension I didn’t even know that I had and gave me exercises to do to maintain the correct posture and avoid further back pain. Her knowledge and magic hands helped me recover far quicker than I know I otherwise would have done. I will definitely be using Tanya again after my next pregnancy”

c section treatment

C Section Recovery Treatment

This session is suitable for you whether your scar is recently healed or many years old. Scar tissue can cause internal pulling we may never be aware of until niggles become issues.

This session is suitable for you whether your scar is recently healed or many years old. Scar tissue can cause internal pulling we may never be aware of until niggles become issues. The pull can extend to the neck, shoulder or as far down as the ankle. This treatment will allow you some more movement/less tension as well as improving the look of the scar itself.

This is a 90 minute session involving a mix of techniques to asses and treat the body.

It will include:

  • Assessment of your Pelvic Floor engagement and contraction through movement assessment and questions
  • Assessment of your breathing patterns to encourage correct and optimal use of the breath and connecting it to the pelvic floor and core
  • Assessing for a Diastasis Recti, treating if necessary and showing you self massage techniques to use at home, as well as some exercise techniques to help
  • Soft tissue techniques of the scar and surrounding local area as well as the whole body if necessary.
  • Discussion about nutrition and the healing qualities of certain food

I usually recommend having at least 3 sessions to get the most out of the session. It is very rare for scars to feel completely better after one session. Subsequent sessions can be an hour or half hour depending on the outcome of the first session.

diastasis-recti-treatment

DIASTASIS RECTI Treatment

Having a diastasis can feel a little worrying and many women can understandably feel like their ‘core’ is weakened and vulnerable. Let me helpp you with this 90 minute session.

This is a 90 minute session at £80.

Having a diastasis can feel a little worrying and many women can understandably feel like their ‘core’ is weakened and vulnerable.

The fact is a diastasis in itself is needed to allow our soft tissue to expand in pregnancy. Sometimes we are left with a gap difficult to close, due to a variety of issues, which may include:

  • How far we stretched
  • Our breathing patterns
  • How we use our abdominal pressure
  • Our posture
  • Our ‘history’ pre pregnancy.

In this session we will look at a variety of different things, taking the body as a whole, trying to ascertain what’s causing the issue.  During the session you will receive hands on treatment for your tummy, as well as any other areas which highlight restrictions.

You will be sent home with some self massage techniques as well as some exercise homework consisting of stretches and strengthening exercisse.  These will be very specific for your and your current issue.

A follow up session is recommended, at either 30 or 60 minutes depending on what is highlighted during the session.

SCARWORK THERAPY

Many clients with scars and scar tissue benefit from having the Reconnect & Thrive’ session, where I can assess the body as a whole, looking at posture, breathing, movement patterns and compensations. This allows me to work with the body as a whole’ rather than just the scar and local area.

STRETCHING

Most treatments will involve some form of stretching during and/or after the massage. This stretches out the muscles which have been worked and found to have trigger points, or that are tight and restricted.

Some clients have a session of mainly stretching to help keep them flexible and mobile. This benefits people of all ages.

There are several stretching techniques that I use:

  • Passive Stretching– performed whilst you lie still, and I gently stretch the muscles worked. I will put the muscle into its fullest range of motion and sustain the stretch for at least 30 seconds, taking into consideration your flexibility and pain threshold.

  • Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) or Muscle Energy Technique (MET)– the muscle involved is stretched for four to six seconds. It is then allowed to relax and then extended further. This process carries on until a maximum stretch has been reached. Resistance to the stretch during the hold helps to increase the stretch outcome.

  • Active Isolated Stretching –a technique developed by Aaron Mattes, using active movement and the theory of reciprocal inhibition to achieve greater flexibility. This stretch involves moving the muscle into the maximum stretch and then taking it slightly further for one and a half to two seconds, and then returning it to the starting position. This can also be performed using a rope or band to stretch the muscle. The whole sequence is repeated eight to ten times. This technique improves range of motion, and increases and maintains flexibility.

RELAXING MASSAGE

Do you feel you would benefit from some time out from the worId and life just for an hour or so?

Do you want a massage that is relaxing to both body and mind but is more than just a salon massage? I will use my knowledge and experience of the body to ensure this massage is tailored specifically for you and your needs on that day.

Having time to ourself can be so difficult to find when we live in a world that involves time schedules and routine. I have many clients who come to me specifically to have a massage to quieten the mind and find that the repercussions of this time can go on for a long time.

I can offer you some space to yourself to truly relax and unwind and find some quiet within life’s busy day. You have a choice from dōTERRA aromatherapy oils, which can be mixed to help your body at that moment in time, or some organic non-scented massage wax, if you are still breast feeding and don’t want to detract from your ‘smell’.

The oils can be made up specifically for you, to what you need on that day to help you get the most out of your session with me. This blend can then be made up into a rollerball for you to take home to keep using if you so wish. Blends of oils in a rollerball start at £20 for a 10ml bottle, depending on which oils are used. This rollerball can be used on your wrists, soles of your feet, neck or down your spine to keep benefitting from the oils.

You can request having hot stones used within the massage for part or all of the session, but this will need to be booked so they are ready for your appointment.

I can use music to help you zone out and switch off and enjoy a massage to your preferred pressure and length of time, either 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

POSTNATAL Exercise & Lifestyle Class

This course is suitable for women from 6 weeks after a natural birth or 12 weeks after a C section delivery.

Babies are very welcome to join us, and a special area is set up for them to lay or play on, within easy reach of mums.

Thursday 10-11am & 11:15am-12:15pm – Turvey Village Hall

This course is for you if you want to get 100% clear on:

– how to re engage your core and strengthen an abdominal separation (Diastasis Recti)
– how to exercise safely and correctly with everyday mum movements
– working with your pelvic floor to regain strength
– effective nutrition which is healing, healthy, tasty and quick to make
– how to work with your c section scar and what is normal
– feel confident about when you are able to start running or retuning to heavier exercise
– you want to bring your baby along

This course is suitable for women from 6 weeks after a natural birth or 12 weeks after a C section delivery. Babies are very welcome to join us, and a special area is set up for them to lay or play on, within easy reach of mums. If at any point your baby needs you, I am happy for babies to be fed, nappies changed as we go along and for you to meet their needs.

Specific work will be done with the pelvic floor and core to strengthen this area and work towards closing any Diastasis or separation which may be causing issues. This will be worked on through the course, building on each week so progression can be made. As a massage therapist specialising in pregnancy and postnatal ladies I also include tips on relieving typical aches and pains which we can get at this stage.

The first 6 weeks of this course we will work on connecting to your core and pelvic floor, and strengthening and using them within movement as well as on their own. The cardio part of the session will gradually increase over the weeks as you get used to returning to exercise.

Week 7 onwards starts to increase the intensity of the cardio, increasing your heart rate whilst still making sure your body is working correctly, using your core and not over stressing the pelvic floor.

Before starting the course you will be sent several short tutorial videos to watch on Posture, Breathing in exercise and use of pelvic floor contraction and relaxation.

It is essential for all mums attending this course to have had a Diastasis check with myself before starting. Further progress checks will be made at week 6 and week 12 either during or post class. This will be a free assessment and will give us a benchmark from which to work on. Once payment and booking forms are completed please book in with me at the clinic so this check can be made. We will also set at least one goal which again can be something to work towards. It can be anything of your choice like being able to exercise for 10-20 minutes without stopping or to find time in the day to practise some deep breathing or to run/jump/sneeze/laugh without peeing……your goal, your choice, so have a think!

Each week as part of the course you will receive a fact sheet containing:

  • One recipe or smoothie you can easily use that is healthy and healing
  • One positive affirmation you can use for the week to focus on
  • One restorative task you can try just for your recovery and healing
  • One video containing homework for the week of one strengthening exercise and one stretching one
  • Homemade protein balls after each session

Once you have started the course you will be added to a closed Facebook group and Whats App group where you can chat to the other ladies within the group and previous groups. You will have access to my experience and knowledge to be able to ask for advice on your postnatal recovery, either through this group or privately. You are welcome to stay within this group as long as it runs or take yourself out of it.

What you will need to bring:

  • Water for you
  • Come in comfortable clothing so you can move easily. Layer up as you will get warm
  • A blanket for baby to lay on over the mat

The course lasts for 12 weeks, comprising of 2 lots of 6 weeks. To complete the course it is essential to complete the 12 weeks. Post graduating from this course you will be able to join the 9am HIIT class on a Thursday for £5.

Pricing

Payment for the twelve weeks is £156. When paying for the course in full you will receive a £5 gift voucher to be used towards a massage with myself. Payment may also be made in 2 x instalments. The second payment can be made at week 6 for the following 6 week block, so 2 x £78. Payment must be made before second half of course commences.

Testimonials

“After a c-section I was worried about how I would get my core stability back and I had never heard of abdominal separation. After Tanya’s first session where she explained how everything worked and checked how much separation I had it was interesting to know why I had no core strength. Week by week she worked on various areas and I always left with the knowledge required to continue the exercises at home. By the end of the first 6 weeks I was nearly back to pre pregnancy and by the end of the second 6 weeks I was back to where I should be. I went to a few more classes after this until I felt comfortable that I had recovered enough and could carry on with the exercises on my own. I will be returning to these classes after my next pregnancy and know that I wouldn’t have recovered properly without Tanya’s knowledge and expertise. The classes are very relaxed and Tanya is very patient and easygoing. I took my baby along and it was no problem at all, if he got bored or upset, Tanya scooped him up allowing me to continue focusing on myself. Cannot recommend enough” – Jo, Turvey

“I went to see Tanya initially for massage, but decided to take part in her Post-natal exercise class as I have a diastasis and a couple of back problems. The class has been amazingly helpful for me in many ways. We went right back to basics with pelvic floor and core stability and looked at various strengthening exercises. I have done Body Control Pilates for several years, but Tanya’s class was better than anything I have learnt at Pilates and has given me the foundation knowledge to always do my Pilates correctly and to get the most out of it. After just five weeks, my Diastasis has reduced from three fingers to just over two, I feel stronger in my core and Glutes, stand better and I can even see the difference it has made. I enjoyed the class so much that I am aiming to join future classes for a refresher!” – Natalie Ibbott Rogers

BABY MASSAGE

An hours tuition where I will run over the full body routine, and cover the wind and colic routine also, including some reflexology you can use. There is then time for a half hour chat and snack time with home made healthy snacks, tea, herbal tea, coffee or water.

If I am your baby, please touch me
I need your touch in ways you never know
Don’t just wash and change and feed me,
But rock me close, kiss my face and stroke my body
Your soothing gentle touch says security and love

I can teach baby massage to parents, grandparents, guardians, carers, siblings, or anyone who wants to learn a skill that will last a lifetime.

Baby massage:

  • develops precious close one-to-one, skin-to-skin contact that is vital for bonding and reducing stress levels
  • relaxes both infant and parent
  • improves muscle strength, flexibility and suppleness
  • promotes better sleep
  • improves blood circulation
  • helps digestion and eases colic, constipation and wind
  • stimulates the release of natural endorphins which subdue pain and have a calming effect
  • may help infants aged under 6 months to sleep better, cry less and be less stressed (cite this paper – University of Warwick 8/11/06)

Important things to remember:

  • Minimum age is six weeks. There is no upper age limit, but once your infant has started crawling, keeping them in one position may be more difficult!
  • Wait 24 hours after an immunisation
  • If your infant is ill or has sickness or diarrhoea, they are better kept at home. Catch up sessions are always available for any missed sessions.
  • If your infant is receiving medical care they are still very welcome, as long as their consultant/doctor is happy with this
  • Massage isn’t comfortable for the baby to receive with a full tummy!

The workshop is held at Little Therapy Space in Olney and consists of an hours tuition where I will run over the full body routine, and cover the wind and colic routine also, including some reflexology you can use. There is then time for a half hour chat and snack time with home made healthy snacks, tea, herbal tea, coffee or water.

The session is a fun relaxed session allowing you to feed or change baby when necessary and I’m happy to go over anything missed.

Please contact me for dates. The workshop costs £15.

Please complete the booking form here and submit before you arrive for this class.
